One of the highlights of this SBL conference in Budapest was the program titled "Origins Within a Social World: Jesus, Judaism and Early Christianity." Irvin J. Borowsky presided in this heavily attended program. Others participants included Helmut Koester, Harvard University Divinity School; James H. Charlesworth, Princeton Theological Seminary; John K. Riches, University of Glasgow; and Hermann Lichtenberger, Universitat Tubingen

Ministers and professors at the Mormon Tabernacle facility were highly receptive to the Institute's objectives and programs.

A series of three programs for professors, clergy, religious leaders and seminary students were held at this prominent seminary.

Presented at the University of Pennsylvania Symposium 2002

Joined by The Providence Forum, the Center for Research on Religion and Urban Civil Society at the University of Pennsylvania, and the National Liberty Museum, the American Interfaith Institute hosted an all-day symposium at the University of Pennsylvania celebrating America's Freedom of Religion. The event was created to mark a triple anniversary for America: the 300th anniversary of William Penn's Charter of Privileges (the first-ever document protecting religious liberty), the 250th anniversary of the ordering of the Liberty Bell, and the 225th anniversary of the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence. A panel of 22 distinguished speakers was assembled including the late Rabbi Chaim Potok; former Philadelphia Mayor Rev. Dr. W. Wilson Goode, Sr.; Emory Univ. Professor Abdullah Ahmed An-Na'im; Archbishop Anthony Cardinal Bevilacqua and many other scholars, clergy and authors. Sessions were conducted on a variety of topics. One subject, "Religion and Urban Society" addressed the challenges that Protestants, Catholics, Muslims and Jews face in the 21st Century.


Presented at an Interfaith Session in Norfolk, VA

In 2002, National Liberty Museum board members Dr. Robert Rubin and co-hosts Frederic Nicholson and Marilyn Simon organized an outstanding meeting in Norfolk, Virginia. They invited hundreds of priests and ministers to participate in an interfaith dialogue and luncheon. The guest speaker was Steven Berneking of the American Bible Society.

Presented at an Interfaith Symposium in Sarasota, FL

Priests and ministers participated in an interfaith symposium in Sarasota titled "Rebuilding Bridges Between Christians and Jews," hosted by long-time supporters of the American Interfaith Institute, Naomi and Bruce Wertheimer.  Dr. Barclay Newman, Senior Translation Officer for the American Bible Society was the key note speaker.  He addressed an audience of more than 100 members of the clergy on the topic of creating accurate translations from the ancient Greek.
 

Presented at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia

The American Interfaith Institute introduced its Tent of Abraham program to an interfaith audience of Museum supporters.  Presentations by a broad range of speakers, including Tashbih Sayyed, Editor, Muslim Word Today and Dr. Radwan Masoudi, Founder & President, Center for the Study of Islam and Democracy,  examined the relationships between Christians, Muslims, and Jews and the challenge of establishing democracy in Islamic societies.
